Dar is growing and changing rapidly. Since the end of the Ujamaa and the end of new liberated economy, it has has transformed it self into the hub of developing capitalist city.  As a result a lot of what defined this Haven of Peace  has had to give way to now what is affectionately known as Bongo.

This book is a photographic record of what was, while also celebrating what is, a love letter to both the old and the new and an attempt at giving permanence to a piece of the city that is constantly evolving.  The photos in this book aim to tell the story of contemporary Dar while at the same time reminding us of its former self.  As a wise once said, in this great future, you cannot forget your past.
